Welcome!

Hello! My name is Tre DiPassio, and I am currently a Research Assistant Professor at the University of Rochester in the Electrical and Computer Engineering department and the Audio and Music Engineering program. The objective of my research is to investigate how IoT devices (such as smart speakers) can transform the ways in which humans interact with technology, with their environment, and with each other. These devices record and process data at the “edge of the network,” such as on a wearable device being carried by the user, on a smart acoustic device in the user’s living space, or on a node that is in close physical proximity to the source of information . I believe that “close-to-the-user” computing systems provide engineers with an opportunity to facilitate natural and constructive interactions between users and their technology. I am also an active instructor, and am currently teaching a Senior Design course. I received my PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Rochester in June 2023. I am also an alumnus of the Rochester Institute of Technology, graduating with BS/MS degrees in electrical engineering in 2018.

Research Areas:

  • Audio and Speech Signal Processing

  • Vibro-acoustics

  • Embedded AI for Human-Computer Interaction

  • Internet of Things (IoT) Sensor Networks
